Hi everyone - I'm looking at some books for my daughter's birthday, but wanted to see if anyone here had gotten these and had a review?

The Doll Hospital series by Joan Holub

The "Dear America" series of books or
The "Young American Voices" journals
(these both seem like AG knockoffs, I'm just wondering about the quality - and the Young American Voices is recommended more for pre-teens)

If You Lived in Williamsburg in Colonial Days (Barbara Brenner)

If You Lived in Colonial Times (Ann McGovern)

Thanks in advance!

I'm familiar with both the Dear America series and the If You Lived... series. Both are excellent.

I'm not familiar with the series you mentioned (I've heard of them, but not read them), but I would highly recommend the "Childhood of Famous Americans" series as well as "The Royal Diaries" series (a spin-off of Dear America, I believe).

I loved the "Childhood of Famous Americans" series when I was a child and have bought several of the newer versions for both of my children over the years. They are very good.

My 10-year-old daughter loves the Royal Diaries series. They are published by the same publishers as Dear America.

I have read a lot of the Dear America books and I love them! I think my favorite one is "Christmas After", it is set in the depression, and the girl reminds me of Kit

The "Royal Diaies" series is good as well!

I read most of the Dear America books when I was younger. They are great books!

I'm 20, and I just bought another Dear America book, lol. I LOVE them. They are incredibly well researched, and very well written as well, I completely recommend them. I wish I could recommend the Babysitter's club. I loved those, but they're out of print Nancy Drew is always bound to be a thrill.

The Young American Voices books(Hannah's Journel, Rachel's Journal, etc) are written by the same person that did the Amelia Notebboks. I liked them because it was done in the character's own "handwriting" with lots of doodles and pictures. Those books are hard to find, too and I'm not sure if they've been discontinued. There are only 4 or 5 in the entire series.

As for Dear America, I love those also. I have about 20 of them. They're good for readers a little more advanced. You can often find used copies at used bookstores. I haven't seen a new one in a long time. I hope that series hasn't been discontinued. The History Mysteries(AG) are another good series, although that series has been discontinued.

I think they stopped writing new Dear America books. There used to be atleast two or tree new books every year, and there hasn't been a new one since 2004.

I love Dear America books! You can't go wrong with them at all. I've read quite a few, but my favorite has got to be [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0590738887/sr=8-1/qid=1140323553/ref=sr_1_1/102-2037566-2156115?%5Fencoding=UTF8"]West to a Land of Plenty.[/ame]
